About us

Nestled under the slopes of Table Mountain, Con Brio Bistro is one of Vredehoek’s best loved local restaurants.

From the exquisite and meticulous dining experiences in Dubai, the warm and boisterous eateries of the Mediterranean and the Baltic shores of Finland, owner Vanessa Rose has spent the last 15 years working and travelling around the world searching for the perfect balance between décor and dish.

And from the flavours of those experiences, she imagined the eating experience people desire most.

Her dream became a reality when Con Brio Bistro opened its doors in early 2015.

When a hot dog is not enough and Chateaubriand is too much, Con Brio Bistro in Vredehoek is the place.

We are child-friendly and boast a yummy kids’ menu with smaller portions of delicious food. We’re also a dog-friendly restaurant so feel free to bring the whole family!

We are vegetarian-friendly and have a popular vegan menu that that keeps our vegan foodies coming back for more. We also have vegan options for pizza and pasta, plus vegan dessert options.

There are few restaurants in Cape Town that boast such a selection of fine foods in such a warm and inviting atmosphere. If you’re looking for the best place to eat in Vredehoek, look no further!

The small plate selections are designed to be shared by the table, creating an interactive, relaxed style of eating, and reasonable prices are designed to keep you coming back for more.

Mains are equally as tempting! Choose from the white wine and basil scented mussel pot or the deep fried gnocchi in a light Gorgonzola cream. Or the smoked salmon and pancetta salad and house made beef burger with cheddar cheese. There is something for every palate.

So come and try for yourself, brunch, lunch or dinner, because the proof is definitely in the pudding.

What a little neighborhood gem! I must admit that this bistro lacks curb appeal so I have passed on it for years. However, yesterday I went there for lunch with my husband (we are foodies) and we were pleasantly surprised. The light meal menu is extensive and well priced with a lot of vegetarian options. The wine list is good too. Can't wait to go back for dinner.read more

A gem of a Bistro. It's all about the chef, Vanessa Rose's brilliant dishes. I did not think I'll ever make the following statement, however tonight we most likely had the very best fare I've ever had the privilege to enjoy in Cape Town. The service was faultless with our chef moving amongst the tables making sure the patrons were contented. We ordered three differnt starters- and three different mains. The venue is understated, relaxed and tonight every table booked was booked with diners. I established that several patrons are loyal addicts who returns week after week for Vanessa's exciting menu. If you have not visited this Bistro, do book a table, you'll be surprised by the delectable dishes as we were.read more

The food is really delicious, fresh and well-presented. But more importantly, it's great value for money and not pretentious at all. Portions are generous and I never walk away feeling cheated. The service is consistently excellent, which is almost unusual at Cape Town restaurants these days. The "small plates" are worth it if you want to try different things (I am usually full after two plates and am not shy on the food front!). My husband and I usually get four and sometimes another (more because it tastes good than because we're hungry!). My faves are the squid, the chicken livers and the potato cakes. The menu changes though so these might not be there in summer. All the gnocchi dishes are wonderful. Great mains: the steak, the gnocchi with the creamy, spicy sausage sauce and the ostrich steak. Get the baby chicken if that's available when you're there. And for dessert: the peanut butter swirl ice cream is worth abandoning a Banting diet for -- BEST peanut butter dessert ever. The donuts are lekker too and the chocolate meringue thing is lovely and light. The apple cigars with cinnamon and salted caramel is also quite yum.read more
